Travel with a vehicle

Saver
Routes between Metro Vancouver and Vancouver Island

Saver

(Routes between Metro Vancouver and Vancouver Island - standard or oversize vehicle itineraries only)

 The non-authorized resale of a booking/reservation is prohibited unless contracted through BC Ferries.
Customers pay fare at time of booking. The following changes are accepted online or by calling the Customer Service Centre up to time sailing is closed for advance sales:
 
  • Change booked sailing time and/or date: Change sailing for $5 (plus any difference in price, if applicable) up to one hour before booked sailing, for sailings that are still open for advance sales.
  • Update booking to add or remove feet to vehicle length (for vehicles more than 20 ft. long only): pay or receive refund for any price difference subject to space availability.
  • Add passengers: pay for additional passengers.
  • Remove passengers: full refund (to original form of payment) of passenger fares paid for removed passengers.
  • Change to a different vehicle type: pay or receive refund for any difference in price, subject to space availability.
  • Remove vehicle from booking: To change your vehicle booking to a foot passenger booking, cancel your vehicle booking and rebook as a foot passenger.
  • Remove vehicle from booking: amount originally paid for vehicle is non-refundable.
  • Change from vehicle to bus or commercial vehicle type: customers must cancel their booking and make a new booking for correct vehicle type. Saver fares do not apply to bus/commercial vehicle types. Cancellation fee may apply (see Cancellation rules below).
  • Change passenger type: pay or receive refund for any difference in price.
 
Changes accepted at terminal on day of departure
  • Arrived early: customers arriving in time for an earlier sailing, on the date they booked to travel, may travel on an earlier sailing, based on order of arrival at the terminal, on payment of any difference in price between their booked price and the At terminal fare. Applicable only for the same day, route and direction of travel as booked.
  • Arrived after reservation cut off (as specified on the booking confirmation document): customers who arrive in time for their booked sailing, but have missed the reservation cut off, may travel on the next available sailing based on order of arrival at the terminal, at no extra cost. Applicable only for the same day, route and direction of travel as booked.
  • Arrived late: customers who arrive after their booked sailing has closed for loading, but on the day they booked for travel, may travel on the next available sailing, based on order of arrival at the terminal, on payment of any difference in price between their booked price and the At terminal fare. Applicable only for the same day, route and direction of travel as booked.
  • Add passengers: pay for additional passengers – no change fee.

  • Change to bus or commercial vehicle type: pay any difference in price and travel on next available sailing based on order of arrival at the terminal. Saver fares do not apply to bus/commercial vehicle types.
  • Thru fares: Saver fares cannot be used for thru fare travel between Vancouver (Tsawwassen) – Southern Gulf Islands. Customers who arrive at the terminal with a Saver fare and intend to travel thru fare will not receive a refund for the Saver fare, and will have to purchase an At Terminal fare (if required).
 
Cancellation rules and fees
  • Cancel 4 days or more before booked sailing: $5 cancellation fee. 
  • Cancel 3 days or less, up to one hour before booked sailing: $20 cancellation fee.
  • Unredeemed bookings: Automatically refunded to the original form of payment, less a $20 fee.

 The non-authorized resale of a booking/reservation is prohibited unless contracted through BC Ferries.
The following changes are accepted online or by calling the Customer Service Centre up to time sailing is closed for advance sales:
 
  • Change sailing time ($5 change fee) - changes may be made up to one hour in advance of the booked sailing from the original port of departure for sailings that are still open for advance sales.
  • Add passengers: pay for additional passengers
  • Remove passengers: full refund (to original form of payment) of passenger fares paid for those passengers
  • Update booking to add or remove feet to vehicle length (for vehicles more than 20 ft. long only): pay or receive refund for any price difference subject to space availability.
  • Change to a different vehicle type: pay or receive refund for any price difference subject to space availability
  • Change to bus or commercial vehicle type: customers must cancel their booking and make a new booking for correct vehicle type. Customers who cancel their booking within 7 days of the sailing, will receive a full refund less the non-refundable cancellation fee ($25 for bookings departing Tsawwassen and $15 for bookings departing the Southern Gulf Islands).
 
Changes accepted at terminal on day of departure:

  • Customer no shows for sailing (booking not redeemed) departing from Vancouver (Tsawwassen): $25 no-show fee will apply.
  • Customer no shows for sailing (booking not redeemed) departing from the Southern Gulf Islands: $15 no-show fee will apply.
  • Add passengers: pay for additional passengers. No change fee.
  • Remove passengers: full refund of removed passengers to original form of payment
  • Remove ≤5 ft. (for vehicles more than 20 ft. long only) receive a refund for removed length. Booking will be honoured.
  • Add ≤5 ft. (for vehicles more than 20 ft. long only): pay for additional length at standard price. Booking will be honoured.
  • Remove > 5 ft. (for vehicles more than 20 ft. long only): receive a refund for removed length – booking will not be honoured, and customer will travel on next available sailing based on order of arrival at the terminal using the payment from the booking.
  • Add >5 ft. (for vehicles more than 20 ft. long only): pay for additional length at standard price. Booking will not be honoured, and customer will travel on next available sailing based on order of arrival at the terminal.
  • Change to a different vehicle type: booking will not be honoured. Pay any difference in price and travel on next available sailing based on order of arrival at the terminal.
  • Change to bus or commercial vehicle type: booking will not be honoured. Pay the difference in price and travel on next available sailing based on order of arrival at the terminal.
 
Cancellation:
  • Customers who cancel their booking seven days prior to their sailing will receive a full refund.
  • Customers who cancel their booking within seven days of their sailing will receive a full refund less the non-refundable cancellation fee ($25 for bookings departing Tsawwassen and $15 for bookings departing the Southern Gulf Islands).

 The non-authorized resale of a booking/reservation is prohibited unless contracted through BC Ferries.
The following changes are accepted online or by calling the Customer Service Centre up to time sailing is closed for advance sales:
  • Change sailing time:
    •  If you are changing your booking outside of 30 days prior to your scheduled sailing date, no fee applies
    • If you are changing your booking on the following routes within 30 days of your scheduled sailing date, a $60 fee will apply:
      • Port Hardy (Bear Cove) – Prince Rupert with mid-coast stops on some sailings
      • Port Hardy (Bear Cove) – Bella Coola
    • If you are changing your booking on the following route within 30 days of your scheduled sailing date, a $30 fee will apply:
      • Prince Rupert – Haida Gwaii
  • Add passengers: pay for additional passengers
  • Remove passengers: full refund (to original form of payment) of passenger fares paid for those passengers
  • Update booking to add or remove feet to vehicle length (for vehicles more than 20 ft. long only): pay or receive refund for any price difference subject to space availability
  • Change to a different vehicle type: pay or receive refund for any price difference subject to space availability.
  • Change to bus or commercial vehicle type: customers must cancel their booking and make a new booking for correct vehicle type. Cancellation terms noted below apply.
 
Changes accepted at terminal on day of departure: 
  • Arrived after reservation cut off (as specified on the booking confirmation document): customers that arrive after the reservation cut off time, but still within sailing time, will be subject to be put at the end of the waitlist.
  • Arrived late: customers that arrive after their reserved sailing time will not receive a refund. Customers will need to pay again for the next scheduled sailing time and date, subject to space availability.
  • Customer no shows for sailing (booking not redeemed): booking non-refundable.
  • Add passengers: pay for additional passengers. No change fee.
  • Remove passengers: full refund of removed passengers to original form of payment
  • Remove ≤5 ft. (for vehicles more than 20 ft. long only): receive a refund for removed length. Booking will be honoured.
  • Remove > 5 ft. (for vehicles more than 20 ft. long only): receive a refund for removed length. Booking will be honoured.
  • Add ≤5 ft. (for vehicles more than 20 ft. long only): pay for additional length at standard price. Customer will lose their booking and travel on standby.
  • Add > 5 ft. (for vehicles more than 20 ft. long only): pay for additional length at standard price. Customer will lose their booking and travel on standby.
  • Change to a different vehicle type: pay any difference in price. Customers will lose their booking and travel on the next available sailing based on order of arrival at the terminal.
  • Change to bus or commercial vehicle type: pay any difference in price. Customers will lose their booking and travel on the next available sailing based on order of arrival at the terminal.
 
Cancellation
Customers may cancel their booking at any time, prior to the sailing and receive a full refund less the non-refundable cancellation fee.
  • Cancelling a booking on the following routes within 30 days prior to the sailing, a $60 non-refundable cancellation fee applies:
    • Port Hardy (Bear Cove) – Prince Rupert with mid-coast stops on some sailings
    • Port Hardy (Bear Cove) - Bella Coola
  • Cancelling a booking on the following route within 30 days prior to the sailing, a $30 non-refundable cancellation fee applies: 
    • Prince Rupert – Haida Gwaii

Customers pay the non-refundable reservation fee at time of booking and pay the At terminal fare on departure. The following changes are accepted online or by calling the Customer Service Centre up to time sailing is closed for advance sales:
 
  • Change booked sailing time ($5 change fee): changes may be made up to one hour in advance of the booked sailing, for sailings that are still open for advance sales.
  • Update booking to add or remove feet to vehicle length (for vehicles more than 20 ft. long only): pay or receive refund for any price difference subject to space availability.
  • Change to a different standard or oversize vehicle type at no cost

  • Update booking to add feet to vehicle length: this is always subject to availability and can be done up to 2 hours prior to your schedule departure time.
  • Change to bus or standard vehicle type: customers must cancel their booking and make a new booking for correct vehicle type.

  • Remove ≤5 ft.: reservation maintained.
  • Remove > 5 ft.: reservation lost, travel based on order of arrival at the terminal.

Cancellation:
Commercial and Livestock customers may cancel their reservation up to 30 minutes prior to the scheduled departure, without any fee. If you do not cancel your booking within this time, and do not show up for your reservation, a $25 no-show fee will be applied to your deferred payment.
Commercial Saver
Commercial travel between Vancouver (Tsawwassen) and Vancouver Island

Commercial Saver Fares are available for semi-trailer, semi-A/B train, straight truck/commercial vehicle and other under the "Over 5,500 kg registered GVW" dropdown on the vehicle details page.

Commercial Saver Fares are not available for buses and vehicles over 9 ft. wide and cannot be redeemed for thru fare travel. 

Commercial Saver Fares are available for vehicles transporting livestock if the vehicle is over 5,500 kg GVW.

    • Standard fare to a Commercial Saver fare: $25 change fee, plus prepayment for Commercial Saver fare.
  • If you book a Commercial Saver and want to change to deferred payment: you can cancel your Commercial Saver booking and rebook with a Standard fare for $25 three days or less before departure (up to 11:59 PM the night before).
  • Update booking to add or remove footage to commercial vehicle length: pay or receive refund for any price difference subject to space availability. You can update your booking to add or remove footage up to two hours before departure.
  • Change to bus or standard vehicle type: customers must cancel their booking and make a new booking for correct vehicle type.

Cancellation:
Customers may cancel their reservations, outside of seven days prior to the scheduled departure – no fee. Within seven days prior to the departure – $25 cancellation is applicable. If you do not show up for your reservation, a $25 fee will be applied to the deferred payment.
Standard
Northern routes - no livestock permitted

Standard (Commercial Vehicle – No Livestock Permitted) – Northern Routes

 The non-authorized resale of a booking/reservation is prohibited unless contracted through BC Ferries.
The following changes are accepted online or by calling the Customer Service Centre up to time sailing is closed for advance sales:
  • Change sailing time or cancel reservation: if you cancel or change the sailing time of your commercial reservation within 5 days prior to the scheduled departure, a $200 fee will be applied to your deferred payment.
  • Add passengers: pay for additional passengers
  • Remove passengers: full refund (to original form of payment) of passenger fares paid for those passengers
  • Add feet to vehicle length: if space is available pay for the additional feet
  • Remove feet: full refund of feet removed to original form of payment
  • Change to a different vehicle type: You will need to cancel your original reservation, and re-book.
 
Changes accepted at terminal on day of departure:
  • Arrived after reservation cut-off (as specified on the booking confirmation document): customers that arrive after the reservation cut off time, but still within sailing time will be subject to be put at the end of the Waitlist.

  • Remove ≤5 ft.: refund the amount you’ve paid for the footage you are removing – reservation maintained
  • Remove > 5 ft.: refund the amount of footage that is removed. Travel in order of arrival at the terminal.
  • Add ≤5 ft.: reservation maintained, pay for any additional footage.
  • Add > 5 ft.: reservation not maintained, pay for additional footage. Dependent on space availability, customer will be placed at the back of the Waitlist.
  • Change to a different vehicle type (private vehicle): reservation not maintained, refund of any difference obtained. Travel at order of arrival to the terminal.
 
Cancellation:
  • Customers may cancel their booking at any time, prior to the sailing and receive a full refund less the non-refundable cancellation fee. If cancellation occurs within five days of travel, a $200 fee will be applied to the deferred payment. If fully prepaid, a refund of amount will be applicable less the cancellation fee.

    If cancellation occurs outside of five days of travel, no fee is applicable and full refund will be applied.

  • Advance check-in: bus and tour groups are encouraged to check in at the terminal the afternoon or evening prior to a morning departure with photo ID of all passengers to make the loading process more efficient. Boarding passes will be printed for each passenger and given to the bus driver/tour guide to distribute.
  • Check-in on day of scheduled departure: if the bus or tour group does not check in on the day prior to travel, the group is required to check in 120 to 150 minutes (2 to 2.5 hours) prior to departure with photo ID of all passengers. Boarding passes will be printed at this time. 
  • Check-in late on day of scheduled departure: any tour group that has not arrived at the vehicle ticket booth for the check-in process 120 minutes (2 hours) prior to departure will forfeit their reservation and will then travel on a standby basis.
  • Add or remove ≤5 ft.: reservation maintained.
  • Add or remove > 5 ft.: booking will not be honoured, travel based on order of arrival at the terminal.
  • Attempt to check in without a bus: booking will not be honoured, travel based on order of arrival at the terminal.
 
Changing or cancelling your booking:

A $50 fee will be applied to any bus or group booking changed within 30 days or less prior to your scheduled departure.

A $200 fee will be applied to any bus or group booking cancelled within 30 days or less prior to your scheduled departure.
