Travel agent commission

Earn 10% commission when you book 24 or more passengers on our Northern routes within a 12-month period. Commission will be issued twice per year, every six months, and is based on total annual passenger volume.
 

Qualifying reservation periods:

  • April 1–September 30
    If you book 24+ passengers within the first six-month period, we will issue a commission payment in October. For additional bookings received after the initial six-month period, we will issue a commission payment in April of the following year.
     
  • October 1–March 31
    If you book 24+ passengers between April 1 and March 31, you will receive 10% commission in April.
 

Tour Operator Pricing Program

If you sell BC Ferries travel packaged with accommodation and activities, and you continuously help us grow our business, you could receive discounted rates and rebates.

Our Tour Operator Pricing Program (TOPP) is for both Northern and Southern BC Ferries routes, and is designed to reward top-producing tour operators.

The program is based on annual revenue and passenger volumes. If you’re a qualifying tour operator, your rebates will be applied to vehicle and passenger fares.
 

Travel agents booking with BC Ferries

Reservations are now bookable online and payment is due in full at time of booking.
 
BC Ferries offers commission on our Northern Routes only as follows:
 
New north self-serve online booking procedures
For all booking requests, availability, cancellations or amendments, you can now self-serve online from our BC Ferries website, and fully prepay with your Corporate Credit Card. You’ll be required to activate your online account for the first time and will be asked to change your password.

For groups of 10 passengers or more, email your group booking request for the north to group.travel@bcferries.com, or call our Customer Service Centre at 1-888-BC FERRY (223-3779) toll free within Canada and the USA, or 1-250-410-1465 outside of North America.
 
Commission
To receive a 10% commission payment for Northern bookings, a minimum of 24 or more passenger fares must be booked within a 12-month period. Commission cheques or Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) will be issued twice annually (every 6 months - April & October).
 
Commission pay periods
  • April 1 to September 30 – commissions paid in October
  • October 1 to March 31 – commissions paid in April 
If a travel agent books 24+ passenger fares within the first six (6) month period, BC Ferries will issue a commission cheque or EFT at that time. Any bookings after the initial six (6) month period will be paid out in the second installment, provided the travel agent has met the 24 passenger requirement.

Commission is calculated on the Gross Total Revenue for regular passenger fares, vehicles, cabins and Aurora Lounge seating.

Excluded from commission calculations:
  • GST collected on ancillary products i.e. cabins, staterooms and Aurora Lounge
  • All Northern Resident (NR) fares i.e. NR vehicles and NR passenger fares, as they are already discounted
  • All fares that have already been discounted i.e. BC Senior rates, escort/disabled rates, student and group rates
  • All sales for the Vista Buffet offered on the Northern Expedition is non-commissionable
Travel Agents will receive 5% GST on all commission payments. BC Ferries preferred payment for travel agent commissions is by way of Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT).
 
GST exemption for BC Ferries’ passenger/vehicle fares
The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and Province of British Columbia regard the supply of ferry services as GST and PST exempt. BC Ferries charges GST to our customers as required under the applicable legislation on ancillary services such as cabins, food services and retail. All our Cabin, Buffet and Aurora Lounge seating fares include 5% GST. Our GST number is #894623206RT0001. 
 
To be compliant with Payment Card Industry Standards (PCI), BC Ferries does not store credit card numbers for payment of northern bookings when calling into our Customer Service Centre to book. Northern bookings require payment by Visa, MasterCard and American Express at the time of booking.
