How to make a booking using a gift certificate:
For customers travelling on the following routes:
- Vancouver (Horseshoe Bay) to Nanaimo (Departure Bay)(one-way)
- Vancouver (Tsawwassen) to Southern Gulf Islands (in both directions)
- North Coast routes (in both directions)
These routes are fully bookable. To make a booking with a gift certificate, call the Customer Service Centre at 1-888-223-3779 in advance of travel.
A credit card will be required to hold the booking, and you can present your gift certificate to the ticket agent at the ticket booth to cover the fares. Any no-show fees will be applied to the credit card used to hold the booking.
For all other routes:
For travel on all other BC Ferries routes, customers who want to make a booking with a gift certificate have the following options:
- Book your sailing online by selecting the “Reservation only” option on the fare selection screen and paying the reservation fee, or book by phone by calling the Customer Service Centre at 1-888-223-3779 and paying the reservation fee. When you arrive at the terminal, present your gift certificate to the ticket agent to cover the fares.
- Travel on standby by arriving at the terminal without a reservation. When you arrive at the terminal, present your gift certificate to the ticket agent to cover the fares.
Note: Gift certificates cannot be used to pay for reservation fees, Saver Fares or to book online. Any applicable no-show fees will be charged to the credit card used to hold the reservation.

BC Ferries gift certificates can be used to pay for fares, meals in our onboard restaurants and retail purchases in Passages. Gift certificates cannot be used to make online bookings. If you wish to use gift certificates to pay for fares, please select the "Reservation only" option when booking online. Reservation fees cannot be paid with gift certificates.
BC Ferries gift certificates are treated like cash at the time of purchase. You will receive change if the purchase does not exceed the amount of the gift certificate.
BC Ferries gift certificates are non-refundable if lost or stolen and do not expire.
Travelling Horseshoe Bay to Nanaimo (Departure Bay)? As of Oct 15, 2025, customers with a gift certificate will need to call the Customer Service Centre at 1-888-223-3779 to make a booking in advance of travel from Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay (Nanaimo). We will use your credit card to hold the booking and you can present your gift certificate to the ticket agent at the ticket booth. Any no show fees will be applied to the credit card used to hold the booking. Customers can still book a Reservation Only fare if travelling from Departure Bay (Nanaimo) with a gift certificate.
