What is the "Extra Length Vehicles" promotion?
From Friday, June 1 through Sunday, September 30, customers travelling with "extra length" private passenger vehicles longer than 20 feet can expect to receive a 50% discount per additional foot on select promotional sailings. The promotion is available on the following two routes (either direction):

  • Metro Vancouver (Tsawwassen) – Victoria (Swartz Bay)
  • Metro Vancouver (Tsawwassen) – Nanaimo (Duke Point)

How much will I save?
The regular price per additional foot (over 20 feet) is $6.50. The "Extra Length Vehicles" price is $3.25 per additional foot, therefore the promotion offers a savings of 50% or $3.25 per additional foot.

Why is BC Ferries offering this promotion?
The "Extra Length Vehicles" promotion provides customers a value choice when travelling with private passenger vehicles over 20 feet in length (e.g. a motorhome or a car pulling a trailer). Customers can choose to travel on select promotional sailings that traditionally have more capacity available with the benefit of attractive savings.

What changes have been made to the "Extra Length Vehicles" promotion for 2018?
In 2018, we are offering over 1,100 promotional sailings, increasing our total number from 1,000 in 2017. During the promotion, customers can choose from up to 85 sailings per week on select sailings on Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.

Are reservations required?
Reservations are not required but due to the busy summer season, reservations are strongly recommended. Space on sailings is on a first-come first-serve basis.

To add certainty to travel plans, vehicle reservations can be made starting from just $10 when booked seven or more days in advance. Reservations can be made up to 2.5 hours before scheduled sailing time, and regular reservation fees apply.

Why aren't "Extra Length Vehicles" sailings available on all routes?
This promotion aims to increase ridership and move travel to off-peak sailings on specific major routes between Vancouver and Vancouver Island where there is capacity available. Customers can choose to travel on selected dates and times with the benefit of attraction savings.

Does the "Extra Length Vehicles" fare apply to Bus and Commercial travel?
The "Extra Length Vehicles" promotion is specifically for over length private passenger vehicles and recreational vehicles. It is not applicable for bus or commercial travel.

Can the "Extra Length Vehicles" Promotion be combined with the "Sunrise & Sunset Savings" Promotion?
Yes, this promotion can be combined with "Sunrise & Sunset Savings" promotional fares on applicable sailings. Private passenger and recreational vehicles over 20 feet in length and under 7 feet in height are eligible for the "Sunrise & Sunset Savings" promotional fare for the first 20 feet.

What happens if I am on a "Extra Length Vehicles" sailing and I am moved to a regular sailing, either because of overloads or sailing cancellations?
The promotional fare is applied at the time of ticket purchase only. If you have cleared the ticket booth area and have paid the promotional fare, this fare will apply to whichever sailing you travel on. Reservation fees will be handled as per regular business practice.

Are promotional Thru Fares available to travel between Tsawwassen and the Southern Gulf Islands via Swartz Bay?
No, Thru Fares are not available. Customers travelling between Tsawwassen and the Southern Gulf Islands via Swartz Bay can take advantage of the promotion between Tsawwassen and Swartz Bay by buying separate tickets for each leg of their journey.

Do BC Seniors travelling on an "Extra Length Vehicles" sailing also benefit from the BC Seniors discount?
Yes, BC Seniors travelling on an "Extra Length Vehicles" sailing Monday to Thursday (excluding holidays) with presentation of a BC Services Card, a BC Driver's License, a BC Identification Card, or a Birth Certificate will benefit from both the "Extra Length Vehicles" promotion and the BC Senior discount. The BC Seniors discount applies only to the passenger fare. If you are presenting a Birth Certificate, proof of residency in BC is required.
