Why did BC Ferries introduce new fares for travel between Vancouver (Horseshoe Bay) and the Sunshine Coast (Langdale)?

We introduced new fares on this route to provide customers with more savings, greater travel certainty and more flexibility. Saver fares are designed to shift traffic to less busy sailings and free up space at more popular sailing times, giving those with flexibility in their plans an opportunity to save. This will reduce congestion at the terminal and make it easier for customers without a reservation to travel.

Prepaid fares offer greater travel certainty to customers as they can be booked in advance and include a one-way reservation.

Both of these fare options also feature a flexible cancellation policy. Saver fares can be cancelled four days or more before departure for $5, or within three days up to one hour before for $20. Prepaid fares can be cancelled up to 11:59 PM the day before departure for $5.

Are Saver fares available for travel between Earls Cove and Saltery Bay?

No, Saver fares are only valid for travel between Horseshoe Bay and Langdale. Standard fares apply for travel between Earls Cove and Saltery Bay.

If I book a Saver fare, is a free reservation included?

Yes, all Saver fares include a free one-way reservation. If you book a Saver fare for travel from Horseshoe Bay to Langdale, it includes return fare for one standard vehicle and driver, plus a free one-way reservation. Saver fares will be offered on select sailings only and availability is limited.

Will reservation space be affected?

The amount of reservable space does fluctuate based on time of day and day of the week that one chooses to travel. On average, about 45% of available space is reservable on each sailing. We adjust the drive up space available at popular commuting times, while encouraging reservations for sailing times that are typically less utilized by offering more bookable space.

With Saver fares, we are encouraging travellers to reserve on less busy sailings by offering a discount. This will help to shift traffic away from busier times so that customers who must travel at typically busier times can do so more easily. We will be monitoring how traffic patterns shift over time, and may adjust the amount of reservable space to continue to encourage those travellers with flexibility in their plans to travel at less busy times.

What sailings will Saver fares be offered on?

Saver fares will be offered at less busy sailing times, specifically late evening sailings after 9:00 PM. A limited number of Saver fares are available, and they are expected to sell out.
