About BC Ferries

Terminal Development Planning

The Skidegate terminal is the main gateway and connection between Haida Gwaii and Prince Rupert and an important link for connecting communities on Moresby Island and Graham Island. It also is the gateway into Haida Gwaii for tourists arriving from Sandspit Airport.

As part of our strategic planning process, we are working on a Terminal Development Plan that will set out a long term vision for the future of the Skidegate terminal to enhance customer experience and ensure efficient operations over the long term. The Terminal Development Plan provides the framework for the phased implementation of strategies and a series of initiatives for the next 25 years.

Engaging with the Community

We initially engaged with the community and key stakeholders in 2017 to gather feedback, suggestions and ideas that helped shape the design options for the new terminal. This included community information sessions, stakeholder meetings and an online survey. Learn more about the key issues and opportunities for the Skidegate ferry terminal.

Further engagement took place last fall and involved the presentation of design concept options; in addition, meetings and online engagement provided opportunities to review and provide feedback on the concept options. Our team reviewed the feedback we received and developed a refined option that forms part of the draft Terminal Development Plan that is now moving through the BC Ferries internal review and approval process.
