July 25, 29 and August 7, 2024

Patricia Bay Highway (Hwy 17) between Victoria and Swartz Bay on Vancouver Island will be temporarily closed from Tanner Road to Island View Road due to the Keating Cross Road Overpass Project during the noted times on the following dates:

Customers looking to travel to or from Swartz Bay terminal during closure times will be impacted and should plan their travel accordingly. A detour will be in effect via Central Saanich Road. Customers should be prepared for a 15-20 minute delay as a result.

Watch majestic grizzlies and black bears forage for spawning salmon in shallow channels on a thrilling all-day bear-watching tour. Venture through the Knight Inlet, the longest inlet on the west coast of North America, where coastal wildlife await. 

Tour highlights

  • Watch for black bears and grizzly bears roaming around the estuary hunting for crabs, mussels and small eels in tidal flats during low tide.

  • In early spring, see how large male bears emerge from hibernation to participate in courtship rituals.

  • Depart from Telegraph Cove in a Coast Guard-certified vessel with a knowledgeable guide.

  • Enjoy complimentary breakfast and lunch on the boat and look out for porpoises, sea otters and other coastal wildlife along the way.

Guest must call  Tide Rip Tours at 250-928-3090 or 1-888-643-9319 by 5:00pm the day before your tour to confirm reservation.

Please check-in at Tide Rip's office 15 minutes prior to your confirmed tour time.

A waiver must be signed prior to participation and any guest under 19 years of age will require a signature from a parent or guardian.

Zodiac tours are not recommended for expectant mothers, persons with back or neck problems, and persons in frail health. Children 10 years and younger are not permitted on this tour.

Please note that tours require a minimum of 4 persons in total per day to operate. 

$10 conservation fee is included with tours
