Who we are

Our community-centric team of over 5,000 highly-skilled employees is energetic and passionate about serving our coastal communities. Safety and sustainability are both top of mind in everything we do.

We are cooks, captains, customer service professionals, and more. We live in cities of three million and on islands of 300 and take pride in connecting our customers to the places and people important in their lives.

BC Ferries acknowledges the enduring ancestral connections of coastal First Nations, on whose beautiful lands and waters we operate every day.

Our mission

To connect communities and customers to people and places important in their lives.

Our story

We're proud to be one of the largest ferry operators in the world, moving more than 62,000 customers and 23,000 vehicles throughout coastal BC every day.

For more than 65 years, we've been dedicated to providing safe and efficient travel for our customers. With 25 routes throughout the west coast of BC, we serve as advocates for the coastal environment and communities where we operate.

Operations began in 1960 with just two ferries providing service on a single route. Today we have 37 ferries moving more than 22.7 million passengers and 9.7 million vehicles every year.
