BC Ferries extends Prince Rupert – Haida Gwaii summer schedule

VICTORIA – BC Ferries is adding five round trip sailings between Prince Rupert and Haida Gwaii between Sept. 11 through Sept. 30 to provide more travel opportunities for vacation travellers and residents.

BC Ferries’ summer schedule traditionally dedicates one ship to the Prince Rupert – Haida Gwaii route and one ship to the Port Hardy – Prince Rupert route. Earlier this summer, the Northern Expedition experienced a main engine failure and was temporarily out of service to undergo repairs. During that time, the Northern Adventure provided service to both routes. The summer schedule usually wraps up mid-September on the Prince Rupert – Haida Gwaii route. In recognition of the impact to the community of reduced availability at the beginning of the summer, BC Ferries is extending peak service levels this year on this route.

A reminder that BC Ferries Vacations offers three and four night bed and breakfast packages, including return ferry from Prince Rupert for two adults and a vehicle, and accommodations at Haida House at Tllaal. Travellers can journey across the Hecate Strait from Prince Rupert to Graham Island, the largest of the Haida Gwaii archipelago on BC Ferries’ Northern Adventure. They can become immersed in Haida Gwaii’s stunning natural beauty, rich cultural history and laid-back lifestyle.

Travellers can get to Prince Rupert on BC Ferries’ Northern Expedition, which departs from Port Hardy on the northern tip of Vancouver Island. This voyage sails up the Inside Passage where sightseers witness remarkable scenery and wildlife on the journey to northern B.C. Customizable vacation packages are also available on the Inside Passage route.

The added trips provide travellers with the opportunity to experience the wonder of Haida Gwaii, and for locals, more frequent access to ferry travel. For full schedule information and BC Ferries Vacations packages, visit bcferries.com.
