Local food bank benefits from BC Ferries employee golf event
Employees raise $1405 for Galiano Island Food Bank
VICTORIA - For the 17th consecutive year, BC Ferries' employees raised money to donate to a local food bank through the annual BC Ferries' Employees Golf Tournament. This year, the COVID-compliant tournament raised $1405 for the Galiano Island Food Bank.On September 19, 2020, before the current COVID restrictions were in place, 65 BC Ferries employees from around coastal British Columbia participated in the 17th annual BC Ferries' Employees Golf Tournament at the Arbutus Ridge Golf Club in Cobble Hill on Vancouver Island. This year was different with COVID-19 safety protocols in place, but the participants enjoyed the day and raised some funds for a very worthwhile organization.
Employees from around coastal British Columbia came together for the opportunity to help those who need a hand, as well as enjoy a great day of golf. The food bank on Galiano Island received a cheque for $1405 from BC Ferries' staff to support individuals and families in need.
“Our employees live and work in the coastal communities we serve, so it's a great opportunity to give back to our neighbours,” said Brian Anderson, BC Ferries' Vice President of Strategy & Community Engagement.
In previous years, the tournament raised funds for food banks on Mayne, Pender, Denman, Hornby, Salt Spring, Gabriola and Quadra islands, as well as Bella Coola, Port Hardy, the Sunshine Coast, Prince Rupert, Haida Gwaii, Powell River, Chemainus and the Cowichan Valley.
Employees who participate in the BC Ferries' Employees Golf Tournament fund the tournament.
