Terminal Development Plan for Galiano Island (Sturdies Bay)
Background
Sturdies Bay terminal is located on Galiano Island, and connects the Island with other Southern Gulf Islands, the lower mainland, and Vancouver Island.The terminal provides service from Sturdies Bay to Vancouver (Tsawwassen) with service to Pender, Mayne, Galiano and Long Harbour, and to Victoria (Swartz Bay) with service to Mayne, Pender and Saturna Islands.
Service to Vancouver (Tsawwassen) is provided by the Salish Orca and Salish Raven, with vehicle capacities of 138 AEQ* and a maximum of 600 passengers and crew. One vessel operates year round and supplementary service is provided by the additional vessel during the shoulder and peak seasons.
Service to Victoria (Swartz Bay) is provided by the Queen of Cumberland, with a vehicle capacity of 112 AEQ and a maximum of 462 passengers and crew, and the Mayne Queen, with a vehicle capacity of 58 AEQ and a maximum of 400 passengers and crew.
Terminal development plan
In November 2019, our Terminal Development team along with key staff from various departments at BC Ferries began the process of creating a Terminal Development Plan for the Sturdies Bay terminal. The Terminal Development Plan is a long-term plan and vision for the terminal and involves identification of key issues and opportunities, conceptual options, identification of preferred concepts and the development of an implementation schedule for future terminal upgrades.Engaging with the community
