Terminal development plan for Graham Island (Skidegate)
BackgroundThe Skidegate terminal is the main gateway and connection between Haida Gwaii and Prince Rupert and an important link for connecting communities on Moresby Island and Graham Island. It also is the gateway into Haida Gwaii for tourists arriving from Sandspit Airport.
In 2017 the terminal development team along with staff from various departments at BC Ferries, began the process of creating a Terminal Development Plan (TDP) that will guide future changes at the Skidegate terminal. The TDP sets out a long term vision for the future of the terminal to enhance customer experience and ensure efficient operations over the long term. It also provides the framework for the phased implementation of strategies and a series of initiatives for the next 25 years.
Engaging with the CommunityWe engaged with the community and key stakeholders in 2017-2018 to gather feedback, suggestions and ideas to help shape the design options for future Skidegate terminal improvements. This included community information sessions, stakeholder meetings and online engagement. Learn more about the key issues and opportunities for the Skidegate ferry terminal.
Additional engagement including meetings and online engagement took place in 2018 when we presented the design concept options.
Where we are nowYour feedback helped us develop a refined option that forms part of the Terminal Development Plan. Once the TDP is approved, we will post it here for you to see. The terminal development planning process was initiated in Spring 2017 and is expected to be completed in 2020.
