Terminal Development Plan for Sunshine Coast (Earls Cove)

Background

Earls Cove terminal is located on Jervis Inlet, a short distance from Egmont, a small community on the Sunshine Coast. The terminal provides service between Earls Cove on the Sunshine Coast and Saltery Bay near Powell River, with a crossing time of 50 minutes. Service is provided by the MV Malaspina Sky, which has a vehicle capacity of 112 AEQ and a maximum capacity of 462 people.

Terminal development plan

Our Terminal Development team along with key staff from various departments at BC Ferries has begun the process of creating a Terminal Development Plan (TDP) for the Earls Cove terminal. The TDP is a long-term plan and vision for the terminal and involves identification of key issues and opportunities, development of conceptual options, identification of preferred concepts and the creation of an implementation schedule for future terminal upgrades.

Currently the ferry terminal is zoned residential and commercial. As a result, as part of the terminal development planning process, BC Ferries is seeking to amend the zoning and Official Community Plan (OCP) to allow future upgrades at the terminal to be implemented, including a new waiting/washroom building which has already been identified by BC Ferries for future replacement. In March, BC Ferries submitted an application to the Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) to amend the OCP and Zoning bylaws for the terminal. Additional information about the OCP and zoning bylaw process, together with our application, is posted online for your review and can be accessed through the link below.
