Canada Day Long Weekend Peak Travel Times - June 30 - July 4
Updated on Thursday, June 30 at 5:35 pm:
For the first time in six years, July 1 (Canada Day) and July 4 (Independence Day for our American friends) will bookend the same weekend. We anticipate high vehicle volumes from Thursday, June 30 through Monday, July 4. As a result, vehicle volumes are expected to be very high throughout the weekend on the following routes:
Vancouver (Tsawwassen) – Victoria (Swartz Bay)
Vancouver (Tsawwassen) – Nanaimo (Duke Point)
Vancouver (Horseshoe Bay) - Nanaimo (Departure Bay)
Vancouver (Horseshoe Bay) – Sunshine Coast (Langdale)
Booking in advance is strongly recommended, as customers without a booking will likely experience sailing waits. The best option to avoid multiple sailing waits is to travel during less busy times, which are typically early morning or late evening sailings. Our current conditions are conservative in their estimates so not to under-report traffic at the terminals. Our deckhands try to get as many vehicles on the car-decks as possible to maximize available space. You can help by parking within 2 feet of the vehicle in front of you to help us reduce overloads.
Customers are encouraged to ride-share or travel as a foot passenger. If walking on, please consider taking public transit, the BC Ferries Connector Bus or being dropped off at the terminal, as parking options at terminals are limited.
Customers with bookings should plan to arrive at the terminal 45-60 minutes before their scheduled departure to account for traffic congestion outside the terminal and to check-in on time for their booking.
Prepare for warm weather – pack your sunscreen, a sun hat and plenty of water for you and your pets.
