  3. Post it with the hashtag #BCFWildlife on your Instagram, Facebook or Twitter account.

  4. To enter, you will need to have an active Instagram, Facebook or Twitter account. To be eligible, you will need to ensure your post is public so that your entry can be found by our judges.

  5. Visit our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages to keep tabs on your #BCFWildlife competition! We'll be sharing updates throughout the contest period.

  6. Entries must be submitted with the contest hashtag (#BCFWildlife) during the contest period from April 26, 2022 – May 15, 2022 to be considered.

  7. A panel of judges appointed by BC Ferries will review posts and select ten finalist photos. The top ten will be contacted by BC Ferries and the finalist photos will be featured in a BC Ferries Facebook album on or around May 18, 2022.

  8. A panel of judges will then select the winning submission from the top ten on or after May 20, 2022. The best photo will be selected at the judges’ discretion. The judges’ decisions are final and cannot be challenged.

  9. If you are selected to win, a BC Ferries representative will contact you on or after around May 23, 2022. If you do not reply in 48 hours, you will no longer be eligible to win.

Judging Criteria:

This is how the judges will be assessing each shot:

  • Does it convey the majestic nature or cuteness of the animal pictured?
  • Does it capture the beauty of British Columbia?
  • Does it demonstrate creativity?

Here are some wildlife viewing and photography guidelines from our friends at BC Parks and at Parks Canada on how to watch and photograph wildlife in a way that's safe for the wildlife and you.

Winner Selection
On or after May 16, 2022 a panel of judges appointed by BC Ferries (the “Judging Panel”) will review posts and select ten (10) photos to be featured in a Facebook album. Each of these ten (10) photos will be considered a “Finalist”. Selections will be based on the degree to which the Judging Panel considers, in its discretion, each entered image to:

  1. depict the majestic nature or cuteness of the animal pictured;
  2. capture the beauty of British Columbia; and
  3. be creative;
with each of the above criteria being equally weighted.

Before an image is declared a top ten Finalist and posted on Facebook, the entrant who submitted the image will be contacted by BC Ferries and required to confirm their eligibility, their agreement to comply in full with these Contest Rules and their agreement to have their photo posted and will also be required to:
  1. sign and return an Image Copyright License agreement, confirming their grant to BC Ferries, one (1) year, of a non-exclusive license to publish, use, adapt, display, reproduce, modify, edit or otherwise use their submitted photo, in whole or in part, for advertising or promoting the Contest or for any other reason and, without limiting the generality of the foregoing, in a BC Ferries Facebook album and/or other BC Ferries marketing/advertising materials; and

  2. where applicable, obtain from any and all persons (including the entrant and any third parties) whose image is contained in their photo (or their guardian if such third parties have not reached the age of majority in their jurisdiction of residence), consent to the disclosure of such person(s)’ personal information, in the form of a Entrant or Third Party Consent/Release provided by BC Ferries, authorizing BC Ferries to collect, use, broadcast, publish and disseminate their image, photograph, likeness, or reference to them, in any advertising or publicity, in any medium, inside or outside Canada, without any further compensation or notice.

Notification of Finalists
Selected entrants who uploaded their image to Facebook will be contacted via a Private Message on Facebook from the @BCFerries Facebook team. If the selected entrant has not ‘liked’ the BC Ferries Facebook page, than Direct Messaging will not be possible; in this case BC Ferries’ social media team will “reply” to the photo with a message requesting that the selected entrant contact it directly via email at marketing@bcferries.com, in which case the selected entrant must do so within 48 hours of BC Ferries’ message. Selected entrants who uploaded their image to Twitter will be contacted via a Direct Message on Twitter from the @BCFerries Twitter team. If the selected entrant is not a “follower” of the BC Ferries Twitter page, than Direct Messaging will not be possible; in this case BC Ferries’ social media team will “reply” to the tweet with a message requesting that the selected entrant contact it within 48 hours directly via email at marketing@bcferries.com. Selected entrants who uploaded their image to Instagram will be contacted via a comment on their Instagram post from the @BCFerries Instagram team, requesting that the selected entrant contact it with 48 hours directly via email at marketing@bcferries.com.

If an entrant does not reply within 48 hours and agree to comply in full with these Contest Rules and to have their photo posted, he or she will be disqualified and an alternate entrant will be selected as a Finalist in accordance with the selection process explained above. Entrant must also provide contact information as requested by BC Ferries.

Once ten (10) Finalist photos have been selected and the entrants who submitted those have provided the required documents, consents and confirmations, those ten photos will be featured in a BC Ferries Facebook album on or around May 18, 2022. On or around May 20, 2022 a panel of judges appointed by BC Ferries will review the ten (10) Finalist entries and select the one (1) photo which will be eligible to win the Contest. Winning entry will be selected at the discretion of the judges and selection will be based on the degree to which the panel considers, in its discretion, each entered image to:

  1. depict the majestic nature or cuteness of the animal pictured;
  2. capture the beauty of the British Columbia; and
  3. be creative;
with each of the above criteria being equally weighted.

Chances of being declared a Finalist and the chances of winning depend on the number and calibre of entries and on the decisions of the above-described judging panel acting in its sole discretion. Judging is subjective and the decisions of the panel are final.

At both stages referred to above, photos will be selected in the judges’ sole and exclusive discretion and selection of the winner will be based on the specified criteria listed above.

Notification of Selected Entrant
Selected entrant will be contacted via email on or around May 23, 2022, using the email address provided when he/she was declared a Finalist. In the event the selected entrant cannot be contacted within 48 hours after the attempted contact, he or she will be disqualified and an alternate Finalist will be selected. Proof of identification must be provided upon request. In the event that the selected entrant and/or traveling companion do not comply with all the provisions as contemplated in these Contest Rules, BC Ferries shall have the right to disqualify selected entrant and/or traveling companion, and select an alternate entrant from remaining Finalists and BC Ferries shall be fully and completely released and discharged from any liability or responsibility in this regard. The provisions and procedures referred to above relating to selection and notification of a selected entrant and/or traveling companion, shall be applied, with the necessary amendments, until a qualified winner and traveling companion have been duly selected.
