Terminal Upgrades – Berth Closure and Alternate Service
Otter Bay (Pender Island)

December 2025 to Fall 2026

Life extension work continues at Otter Bay Terminal and is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.

Planned Berth Closure

To complete the remaining work, a full berth closure at Otter Bay Terminal will be required. As a result, all regular ferry service to and from Pender Island will be suspended from November 20 - 24, 2026. Emergency and essential services will not be impacted, and Dangerous Goods (DG) sailings will be revised to accommodate the closure and updated online. BC Ferries will work with commercial users to minimize disruptions.

During the Berth Closure

  • A water-taxi will operate between Otter Bay and Swartz Bay.
  • Tickets can be purchased at the Swartz Bay foot passenger ticket booth.
  • Free parking will be available at both terminals.
  • Terminal staff will be on site to assist customers and provide directions to the loading area – at Otter Bay Marina on Pender Island and at the Terminal Maintenance Float, adjacent to Berth 1 (in front of the ticket booth area) at Swartz Bay.
  • Customers will be able to transport items such as bicycles, strollers, and mobility aids.
  • Pets will be welcome on the water taxi under the following conditions:
  • They fit on the owner’s lap or between their feet/legs on the floor.
  • Walkways remain clear and unobstructed for safety.
  • Pets are non-aggressive and under the owner’s control.
