Overnight Closures Planned for George Massey Tunnel
The Ministry of Transportation has scheduled overnight closures of the George Massey Tunnel for maintenance from September 18 - 20.
Scheduled Highway Closure Times:
- Northbound - Friday, September 18 from 9:00 pm to Saturday, September 19 at 6:00 am
- Southbound Closure - Saturday, September 19 from 9:00 pm to Sunday, September 20 at 6:00 am
Customers travelling to or from Tsawwassen terminal around these times should plan for additional travel time or consider an alternate route via the Alex Fraser Bridge.

Located in Whistler on the shared traditional territories of the Squamish Nation and Lil’wat Nation, the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre is a first of it’s kind project in Canada, with the partnership of two unique Nations who wish to share their cultural knowledge to inspire understanding and respect amongst all people. The building itself evokes the form of Squamish Longhouse and a Lil’wat Istken (earthen dwelling).
Highlights:
- Knowledgeable Cultural Ambassadors share their teachings on an hour-long tour including a hand drum welcome song, and a 15-minute film.
- Gather round a hand-carved journey canoe with impeccable craftsmanship.
- Walk along a short interpretive trail that passes through old-growth forest.
- Explore the gift shop and take home a piece of hand-crafted Indigenous artwork.
- Visit the Thunderbird Cafe, which features an Indigenous -inspired menu
