Hostle vehicles
  • Hostle bookings not redeemed 3 hours prior to the scheduled sailing time will be cancelled.
  • All hostle vehicles must be dropped off during business hours with the exception of commercial drop trailers for Prince Rupert.
 
Commercial vehicles
  • Commercial vehicle bookings not redeemed 2 hours prior to scheduled sailing will be cancelled and customers will travel based on order of arrival at the terminal.
 
What you need to redeem your booking

When you arrive at the terminal, provide the ticket agent with your booking reference number or the phone number on your booking. You will need government-approved photo ID for proof of age as applicable (e.g. BC Seniors).

Bookings will not be honoured and travel will be based on order of arrival at the terminal if you arrive after the check-in has closed (4 hours prior to schedule departure for hostle vehicles and 3 hours prior to scheduled departure for commercial (non-hostle) vehicles.

For hostle vehicles, bookings will not be honoured and travel will be based on order of arrival at the terminal if you arrive after the check-in has closed (4 hours prior to the scheduled departure).

For commercial, non-hostle vehicles, bookings will not be honoured and travel will be based on order of arrival at the terminal if you arrive after the check-in has closed (3 hours prior to the scheduled departure).

Vehicle type and size

Your booking will only be honoured for the vehicle type and size you reserved.

If your reserved vehicle height differs at check-in, your booking will not be honoured. If your reserved vehicle length differs by more than 5 feet (1.5 metres) at check-in, your booking will not be honoured. To make changes to your booking, access your BC Ferries account online.


 

Booking cancellations and changes to ferry travel

Changes to your booking can be made up to three hours prior to your scheduled departure, subject to the terms and conditions of the fare purchased and applicable fees. Check BC Ferries’ Cancellation/Change policies for details. A fee will be applied to the card associated with your booking if you cancel within five days of the scheduled departure.


 

Sailing cancellations

If you check-in at the terminal and the sailing is then cancelled, we will make every effort to load you on the next available sailing where space is available.

Customers with a booking on the next scheduled departure will be loaded in advance of customers from the cancelled sailing. If we are unable to load you on the next available sailing, you will be loaded in order of arrival at the terminal.

If you choose not to travel, your fares will automatically refund to your original form of payment. We will also refund any changes made at check-in, which a ticket agent must process at the terminal. View more information about sailing cancellations.

If you are a commercial driver with the risk of exceeding your hours of service due to a sailing cancellation, advise the terminal staff and we will work with you on options.


 

Conditions of Carriage/Rules & Requirements

By purchasing a booking, you acknowledge your acceptance of BC Ferries’ Conditions of Carriage and Rules & Requirements (available upon request at any terminal, any ferry, or at BC Ferries’ head office).

The non-authorized resale of a booking/reservation is prohibited unless contracted through BC Ferries.


 

Health and safety

To support the health and wellness of our customers and employees, all BC Ferries vessels and terminals are smoke and vape-free environments. BC Ferries has a zero tolerance policy for passengers under the influence of drugs or alcohol and any unacceptable conduct that can be associated with impairment. The consumption of drugs and alcohol on BC Ferries’ vessels and at its terminals is prohibited. We all deserve to feel safe and respected—violence and foul language will not be tolerated and may result in denial of service.

 Masks recommended


Following direction from the Provincial Health Officer, masks are no longer mandatory in indoor public settings. Masks are recommended indoors at terminals and on board.

Please respect your fellow passengers and our crews if they choose to wear a mask, comfort levels will vary as restrictions change.

Transport Canada safety regulation

In accordance with Transport Canada safety regulations passengers must exit their vehicle on any closed lower deck on a ferry that is underway. A closed vehicle deck is a space that is closed at both ends with limited side openings.

During boarding, passengers should advise the Chief Steward of any serious medical conditions. BC Ferries staff are trained in emergency first aid; however, there are no qualified medical personnel on board.

Standard (Commercial Vehicle – No Livestock Permitted) – Northern Routes

 The non-authorized resale of a booking/reservation is prohibited unless contracted through BC Ferries.
The following changes are accepted online or by calling the Customer Service Centre up to time sailing is closed for advance sales:
  • Change sailing time or cancel reservation: if you cancel or change the sailing time of your commercial reservation within 5 days prior to the scheduled departure, a $200 fee will be applied to your deferred payment.
  • Add passengers: pay for additional passengers
  • Remove passengers: full refund (to original form of payment) of passenger fares paid for those passengers
  • Add feet to vehicle length: if space is available pay for the additional feet
  • Remove feet: full refund of feet removed to original form of payment
  • Change to a different vehicle type: You will need to cancel your original reservation, and re-book.
 
Changes accepted at terminal on day of departure:
  • Arrived after reservation cut-off (as specified on the booking confirmation document): customers that arrive after the reservation cut off time, but still within sailing time will be subject to be put at the end of the Waitlist.
  • Arrived late: subject to space availability, your reservation is no longer honored. Dependent on space, you may still go on the vessel in order of arrival to the terminal.
  • Customer no shows for sailing (booking not redeemed): a $200 no-show fee will apply.
  • Add passengers: pay for additional passengers – no change fee
  • Remove passengers: full refund of removed passengers to original form of payment
  • Remove ≤5 ft.: refund the amount you’ve paid for the footage you are removing – reservation maintained
  • Remove > 5 ft.: refund the amount of footage that is removed. Travel in order of arrival at the terminal.
  • Add ≤5 ft.: reservation maintained, pay for any additional footage.
  • Add > 5 ft.: reservation not maintained, pay for additional footage. Dependent on space availability, customer will be placed at the back of the Waitlist.
  • Change to a different vehicle type (private vehicle): reservation not maintained, refund of any difference obtained. Travel at order of arrival to the terminal.
 
Cancellation:
  • Customers may cancel their booking at any time, prior to the sailing and receive a full refund less the non-refundable cancellation fee. If cancellation occurs within five days of travel, a $200 fee will be applied to the deferred payment. If fully prepaid, a refund of amount will be applicable less the cancellation fee.

    If cancellation occurs outside of five days of travel, no fee is applicable and full refund will be applied.
