Release Date News Item Tuesday, October 13, 2009 BC FERRIES REMINDS CUSTOMERS OF SAILING REDUCTIONS ON THE HORSESHOE BAY – DEPARTURE BAY ROUTE VICTORIA – BC Ferries is reminding customers that the 7:00 pm sailing from Departure Bay and the corresponding 9:00 pm sailing from Horseshoe Bay have not been scheduled Monday through Thursday from October 14, 2009 – March 31, 2010 (excluding Christmas and Olympic periods). These evening sailings will continue to operate on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Monday, October 12, 2009 SPIRIT OF VANCOUVER ISLAND GOES FOR EARLY REFIT VICTORIA - The refit and maintenance period of the Spirit of Vancouver Island has been moved ahead as a result of the fire in the stand-by generator. Friday, October 9, 2009 SPIRIT OF VANCOUVER ISLAND OUT OF SERVICE AT LEAST ONE WEEK VICTORIA – Preliminary assessment of the condition of the stand-by generator on the Spirit of Vancouver Island indicates the ship will be out of service for at least one week. Friday, October 9, 2009 SPIRIT OF VANCOUVER ISLAND OUT OF SERVICE VICTORIA – BC Ferries’ Spirit of Vancouver Island, which operates on the Swartz Bay – Tsawwassen route, has been removed from service, as a result of a small fire in a stand-by generator. The fire was quickly extinguished by engineers and no injuries were reported; however, the ship’s return to service is unknown at this time. Monday, October 5, 2009 BC FERRIES RECOMMENDS PLANNING AHEAD FOR THANKSGIVING LONG WEEKEND VICTORIA – BC Ferries is adding extra sailings for the upcoming Thanksgiving long weekend and advises customers to plan their travels in advance. Monday, September 14, 2009 BC FERRIES RELEASES SUMMER TRAFFIC STATISTICS VICTORIA – BC Ferries released its summer traffic statistics today and despite a downturn in tourism in British Columbia, the company recorded positive traffic numbers versus last year. Monday, August 31, 2009 MINOR ROUTE FUEL REBATE INCREASES SEPTEMBER 1 VICTORIA – Effective tomorrow, BC Ferries is increasing the fuel rebate on all of its 17 minor routes from 8 per cent to 10 per cent on average. Wednesday, August 26, 2009 BC FERRIES ANTICIPATES VERY BUSY WEEKEND VICTORIA – BC Ferries is advising customers that the upcoming August 28 – 29 weekend is expected to be extremely busy on the major routes connecting Vancouver and Vancouver Island. Monday, August 24, 2009 $39 COASTSAVER FARE HELD OVER BY POPULAR DEMAND VICTORIA – BC Ferries’ $39 CoastSaver car and driver fare has been extended one extra week due to its popularity with summer travellers. The CoastSaver fare which is offered on the three major routes between Vancouver and Vancouver Island on all sailings on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays now extends through September 10. Thursday, August 20, 2009 BC FERRIES RELEASES FIRST QUARTER RESULTS VICTORIA – British Columbia Ferry Services Inc. (BC Ferries) announced its first quarter results today. Net losses were $3.6 million for the three months ended June 30, 2009 compared to net earnings of $8.4 million in the first quarter of the previous fiscal year. In the first quarter, vehicle traffic was down 1.0 per cent and passenger traffic was down 0.4 per cent compared to the same period last year.
