BC FERRIES REMINDS CUSTOMERS OF SAILING REDUCTIONS ON THE HORSESHOE BAY – DEPARTURE BAY ROUTE
VICTORIA – BC Ferries is reminding customers that the 7:00 pm sailing from Departure Bay and the corresponding 9:00 pm sailing from Horseshoe Bay have not been scheduled Monday through Thursday from October 14, 2009 – March 31, 2010 (excluding Christmas and Olympic periods). These evening sailings will continue to operate on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

VICTORIA – Preliminary assessment of the condition of the stand-by generator on the Spirit of Vancouver Island indicates the ship will be out of service for at least one week.

SPIRIT OF VANCOUVER ISLAND OUT OF SERVICE
VICTORIA – BC Ferries’ Spirit of Vancouver Island, which operates on the Swartz Bay – Tsawwassen route, has been removed from service, as a result of a small fire in a stand-by generator. The fire was quickly extinguished by engineers and no injuries were reported; however, the ship’s return to service is unknown at this time.

VICTORIA – Effective tomorrow, BC Ferries is increasing the fuel rebate on all of its 17 minor routes from 8 per cent to 10 per cent on average.

$39 COASTSAVER FARE HELD OVER BY POPULAR DEMAND
VICTORIA – BC Ferries’ $39 CoastSaver car and driver fare has been extended one extra week due to its popularity with summer travellers. The CoastSaver fare which is offered on the three major routes between Vancouver and Vancouver Island on all sailings on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays now extends through September 10.

BC FERRIES RELEASES FIRST QUARTER RESULTS
VICTORIA – British Columbia Ferry Services Inc. (BC Ferries) announced its first quarter results today. Net losses were $3.6 million for the three months ended June 30, 2009 compared to net earnings of $8.4 million in the first quarter of the previous fiscal year. In the first quarter, vehicle traffic was down 1.0 per cent and passenger traffic was down 0.4 per cent compared to the same period last year.
