MORFITT ISSUES FOLLOW-UP SAFETY REVIEW – MAJOR IMPROVEMENT CITED
VICTORIA – BC Ferries released today a comprehensive follow-up review by former B.C. Auditor General George Morfitt on the operational safety audit conducted five years ago. The 73-page report reviews the status of 41 recommendations made by Morfitt in the original 2007 report.

ALL HOLIDAY SAILINGS TO PROCEED DESPITE DUKE POINT CLOSURE
VICTORIA – BC Ferries announced today that no sailings on either the Duke Point - Tsawwassen route or the Departure Bay - Horseshoe Bay route will be cancelled over the holiday season due to the hard landing incident at Duke Point yesterday. A service plan has been developed to provide all sailings as previously scheduled.

BC FERRIES TO OPERATE MID ISLAND ROUTE VIA DEPARTURE BAY
VICTORIA – Effective immediately, BC Ferries will operate its Tsawwassen mid-island sailings from Departure Bay in Nanaimo instead of Duke Point. This change to the route will continue until further notice.

BC FERRIES TO INSTALL PUBLIC FLOAT AT LANGDALE TERMINAL
VICTORIA – BC Ferries will install a public float at the Langdale terminal for use by private boaters in January 2012, after the busy holiday season. During the installation of the public float, access to BC Ferries’ float will be restricted to the MV Stormaway only, which provides water taxi service to Gambier and Keats islands. Private boaters will not be permitted to access to BC Ferries’ float from January 9 – 22, 2012.

ISLAND SKY TEMPORARILY REMOVED FROM SERVICE FOR ELEVATOR OVERHAUL
VICTORIA – The Island Sky, which services BC Ferries’ Earls Cove – Saltery Bay route on the northern Sunshine Coast, will be temporarily removed from service on January 16, 2012 for approximately six weeks in order to overhaul the ship’s elevator.

BC FERRIES TO ADJUST FUEL SURCHARGES EFFECTIVE DECEMBER 12
VICTORIA – Due to the rising cost of marine diesel fuel, BC Ferries is advising customers that fuel surcharges on some routes will be adjusted on December 12.
