Denman East/Hornby Island

Photos of Denman East and Hornby Island Terminals

The Denman East terminal is located on the southeast coast of Denman Island in the area of Gravelly Bay. It is a 10 minute ferry crossing on the Kahloke from Denman East to Shingle Spit terminal on Hornby Island. The Kahloke can carry a maximum of 21 vehicles and 200 passengers and crew, and is equipped with a passenger lounge and washroom.

For those travelling to Denman East or Hornby Island from Vancouver Island, there is a 10 minute sailing between Buckley Bay and Denman West. It is approximately 11 kilometres from the Denman West and Denman East terminal.

The scope of the Denman East and Hornby Island TDP study covers planning, conceptual design, and development of an implementation schedule and budget estimates for upgrading the terminal.

Engaging with the Community

In November 2017, we engaged with the community and key stakeholders to gather feedback, suggestions and ideas that will help shape the design of the new terminal. This included a community info session and an online survey. Learn more about the concepts, key issues and opportunities for Denman East and Hornby Island.
