BC Ferries Security Enhancements

Working closely with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Transport Canada, the Ministry of Transportation and other stakeholders, BC Ferries has completed vulnerability assessments and developed approved security plans on designated routes.

As a result a number of important security enhancements are now in place including:

  • Employee identification cards
  • Designated restricted, prohibited and controlled areas
  • Random canine vehicle and baggage screening
  • Closed Circuit Television monitoring
  • New signage
  • Security awareness training for all employees
  • Contractor/Visitor access requirements
  • Development of an Operations and Security Center
  • Increased perimeter fencing
  • Access control to restricted areas
  • Waterside screening
  • Increased security patrols
