Gravelly Bay and Shingle Spit terminals

Terminals development plans for Denman Island East (Gravelly Bay) and Hornby Island (Shingle Spit)

Background

The Denman West TDP was approved in September 2018, while the Denman East and Hornby Island Terminal Development Plans were approved in October 2018. The purpose of these Terminal Development Plans is to set out the long term vision for the future by providing the framework for the phased implementation of strategies and actions at the terminals over the next 25 years. The plans will enable BC Ferries to develop these terminals in a cost effective, organized and efficient way.

Engaging with the community

In November 2017, we engaged with the community and key stakeholders to gather feedback, suggestions and ideas that will help shape the design of the Denman East and Hornby Island terminals. This included a community info session and an online survey. Learn more about the concepts, key issues and opportunities for Denman East and Hornby Island.

Where are we now

The TDPs involved planning, conceptual design options and the development of an implementation schedule and budget estimates for future terminal upgrades. After careful consideration of the issues identified by comments received from the community engagement, internal Working Groups, and stakeholders the design options were refined into a preferred option. This preferred option meets terminal design requirements, and addresses some of the key issues within the terminal area to enhance the travel experience of ferry users. The preferred option for each terminal can be viewed in the Terminal Development Plan..
