February 19, 2020 – BC Ferries Names and Christens the first two Island Class ferries
We christened two new hybrid electric-Island Class ferries at Point Hope Maritime in Victoria. Vessel sponsors from BC Ferries and the Community where the ferries will serve revealed the names: Island Discovery and Island Aurora.
 


January 24, 2020 – Island Class ferries move to Point Hope Maritime in Victoria
BC Ferries first two new hybrid-electric Island Class ferries were transported to Point Hope Shipyard in Victoria, BC. This video shows the epic process of moving the ships from the transport carrier to the shipyard via downtown Victoria.
 


 

January 18, 2020 – New hybrid-electric ships arrive in BC
Just after sunrise, two new BC Ferries hybrid-electric Island Class ships arrived in BC & docked at Ogden Point. The arrival of these ferries marks the dawn of a new era of clean, quiet and efficient ferry transportation on BC's coast.
 


 

November 20, 2019 – Two hybrid-ferries bound for BC
The ships departed Constanta, Romania on November 20, 2019, on a semi-submersible vessel for the 10,305 nautical mile journey to their new home in B.C.

What will happen to the North Island Princess and the Quadra Queen II?

The North Island Princess will be retired and disposed of in an environmentally-responsible manner, as is the standard for all our retired ships.

The Quadra Queen II will become a relief vessel, filling in for other ships in our fleet and allowing for the retirement of the 53-year-old Howe Sound Queen.
