Itinerary
 
Day1.  Vancouver to Parksville/Qualicum

Leave Vancouver and travel to Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver to catch one of BC Ferries' frequent sailings to Nanaimo, the "hub" city of Vancouver Island. Proceed north on Highway 19, the Island Highway, taking the turnoff to Highway 19A - the Oceanside Route - to the beachside communities of Parksville/Qualicum Beach. This area offers 20 km (12 miles) of sandy beach to make your own.

Day2.  Around Parksville/Qualicum Beach

This morning, travel west on Highway 4. Stop and stroll along the turbulent river and waterfalls at Little Qualicum Falls Provincial Park. Continue west to awe-inspiring Cathedral Grove, where you may walk through a dense towering forest of huge ancient fir trees. Return through the quaint village of Coombs and perhaps shop at the country market, complete with goats grazing on the roof, or visit Butterfly World.

Day3.  Parksville/Qualicum Beach to Comox Valley

Turn north again on Highway 19A, which will take you on a seaside route through Lighthouse Country. Explore the caves at Horne Lake Caves Provincial Park, or go for a swim in the warm waters of nearby Spider Lake. Go further north and you enter the beautiful Comox Valley, with offerings ranging from hiking and freshwater fishing to scuba diving and sea kayaking. You may wish to take a sidetrip with BC Ferries to the picturesque Hornby and Denman Islands with their beautiful sandy beaches.

Day4.  Comox Valley to Campbell River
In the morning, drive up the Strathcona Parkway to Mount Washington Resort, where there are panoramic views of the Strait of Georgia and portions of Strathcona Provincial Park. Take a chairlift to the top of the mountain for an even better view. In the afternoon, head north again on Highway 19A to Campbell River, the Salmon Fishing Capital of the World.

Day5.  Around Campbell River
Spend the day in the area. You may wish to take a tour on a fast-moving zodiac that can include tidal rapids and whale watching. Go fishing for salmon from the famous fishing pier in the heart of downtown, or play golf on one of three beautiful courses. Overnight Campbell River.
Overnight: Campbell River
Day6.  Back to Vancouver
Turn south on Highway 19, the new Highway, which speeds you back to Nanaimo and your BC Ferries return voyage to Vancouver.
