Community Profile - Chilliwack

Community Facts

The name comes from the First Nation people whose communities form the western edge of the city. A rough translation is “going back upstream”, which refers to their ancient homeland upstream on the Chilliwack River. Famous for its sweet corn and other agricultural products, there are several interesting farm tours in the area, and local lakes and rivers offer excellent fishing and water sports. Golf courses and bike trails offer challenges for all skill levels.

  • City of Festivals. Chilliwack stages a number of great annual events. The Dixieland Jazz Festival takes place in early May during “Celebrate the Arts” month. In July, experience one of western Canada’s largest vintage car shows in the beautiful Minter Gardens. Labour Day weekends offer the Chilliwack Bluegrass Festival.
  • Atchelitz Threshermen’s Antique Powerland. Vintage trucks, tractors and farm equipment. See and hear an antique steam engine in action.
  • Cultus Lake. One of the most popular recreation areas in the Fraser Valley. Swimming and other water sports, golf, hiking and go-carting. Nearby Cultus Lake Provincial Park offers beach access and four different campgrounds.
  • Cultus Lake Water Park. For the ride of your life. Family fun from May to September, featuring a new hot water spray park, Cannon Kingdom, the Valley of Fear and Radical Rapids and Water Mania, designed with kids in mind.
