Named for the Fraser River delta on which it lies, Delta comprises three communities, Ladner, Tsawwassen and North Delta, in a fertile oasis of farmland and wetlands accessed by both Hwy. 99 and Hwy. 91. The B.C. Ferries Terminal is located in Tsawwassen, which means, “looking toward the sea”. Reifel Bird Sanctuary, more than 230 species have been seen, and some 1.5 million migratory birds stop here every year, including about 20,000 snow geese in November.
Deas Island Regional Park. Walk dykes, marshes and meadows and visit a one-room schoolhouse built in 1909, a Queen Anne style home built in 1905 and the historic Delta Agricultural Hall. V Centennial Beach in Tsawwassen has one the region’s warmest, cleanest soft-sand beaches as well as picnic facilities, beach volleyball, nature trails and a concession stand.
Burns Bog. The largest undeveloped urban land area in Canada, with some 178 species of birds and mammals, including bear and the threatened Sandhill Crane, the oldest known bird. The vast bog helps “scrub” carbon dioxide from the air.
