Community Profile - Skidegate

Community Facts

The Haida Gwaii Museum is located on a rocky headland at Second Beach between Skidegate Landing and the main part of the Village of Skidegate. The museum has galleries displaying Haida history and restored totem poles, the pioneer settlements and a natural history gallery of QCI birds, mammals and fossils. In the Village of Skidegate, a huge cedar longhouse faces the beach and is fronted by a dogfish totem pole carved by Bill Reid. The longhouse is the Skidegate Band Council office. Many carvers work in Skidegate, with argillite, silver and gold.

Skidegate is primarily residential, however, visitors will find a cafe, gift shop and laundromat.

BC Ferry docks here.
