About 10 kilometres (6 miles) from Dawson Creek is Pouce Coupe. First written about in the early 1800s, established in 1909 and incorporated in 1932, Pouce Coupe is the oldest municipality in the Peace River Valley. How do you say the name? Old-timers pronounce it as Poose Coopay, while the younger generations say Poose Coopee. However, most just say Pouce.
Throughout the village, many flower baskets line the streets with brilliant splashes of colour. Each flower arrangement is maintained by community groups or residents.
Passing through Pouce Coupe, four heritage buildings glamorize the roadway. The early town hall, library, post office and original train depot have been converted into the present-day museum and firehall.
The highlight of the summer is the July 1 parade and barbecue. In winter, residents enjoy the nearby cross-country trails, downhill skiing and snowmobiling.
Close to the village is Regional Park on the banks of the Pouce Coupe River and Bissett Creek, with a playground, sheltered cookhouse and electrical hookups — a welcome place for all manner of get togethers and and overnight gatherings.
