Shared Terminal Facilities - Prince Rupert

Posted April 09, 2008

Effectively immediately, BC Ferries will be sharing its Prince Rupert terminal and docking facilities with the Alaska Marine Highway Service while the Alaska Marine Highway dock facilities undergo emergency repairs.

In order to comply with Canada and U.S. Customs and Immigration regulations, BC Ferries is required to establish a secure perimeter around certain portions of the terminal while the Alaska Marine Highway’s passengers and traffic load and disembark the vessel. During that time, customers of BC Ferries (on foot and in vehicles) will only be permitted in designated areas to maintain the integrity of the unloading process.

Passengers who enter this secured area during loading will be subject to search and seizure under Canadian Customs and Immigration law. A number of security precautions, including additional staff and physical barriers, will be put in place to minimize confusion to passengers of both services.

Additionally, BC Ferries’ terminal staff will be on hand to answer questions and give direction to our customers who intend to visit the terminal at these times.

BC Ferries thanks customers its customers for their patience and understanding during this time.
