Hornby Overloads on Fridays

Issued June 3, 2004

Customers are reminded that catching Friday’s 10:00 pm sailing from Buckley Bay to Denman Island does not guarantee space on the last sailing to Hornby Island at 10:35 pm.

The Denman and Hornby vessels shuttle to accommodate heavy traffic volumes, but the Hornby vessel cannot double back for traffic left behind on Denman after the last sailing on Friday.

BC Ferries crew  members provide a 16-hour service ending at 11:00 pm on Friday, and are back on the job again for the 7:30 am sailing on Saturday.  In order for them to be properly rested to provide continued safe service on Saturday, they must complete the service day at 11:00 pm on Friday.  This also avoids overtime costs for the entire Saturday shift.

To assist in travel planning, customers are encouraged to arrive at Buckley Bay for sailings scheduled prior to 10:00 pm on Friday to avoid the possibility of not getting through to Hornby the same evening.
