Just the Facts

2008 statistics show that sailings throughout the BC Ferries system departed on time (within 10 minutes of scheduled sailing time) on average about 88 per cent of the time.

Here's why:

  • Heavy traffic 62%

  • Procedural Issues (i.e. marine traffic, accommodating passengers, fueling, Transport Canada required drills) 16%

  • Mechanical 7%

  • Incidents (i.e. medical and rescue emergencies, vehicles stalled or stuck onboard, customer-related incidents) 6%

  • Weather 6%

  • Miscellaneous 3%
