Your new BC Ferries Experience™ Card is an electronic swipe card that can be loaded with money and used to pay for ferry travel including reduced fares wherever they’re available (you can’t do that with paper tickets!).*

You’ll also get the choice to save on your passenger fare OR vehicle and passenger fares by loading a minimum amount onto your card:

  • Passengers only (from $40)
  • Vehicles and Passengers (from $75)

BC Ferries Experience™ cardholders who register will also receive these great features:

  • Loss protection for your card’s balance.
  • Capability to transfer money between cards.
  • Ability to set Auto Load so your card is never empty.
  • Travel History report showing travel on your card.
  • Ability to purchase Assured Loading Tickets (ALTs), which provide priority travel on three major Vancouver Island/Mainland routes.
  • Access to new and different products in the future.
  • All of the above in a convenient wallet-size format.

The BC Ferries Experience™ Card is now available to customers on all Southern Gulf Islands and Northern Gulf Islands routes, as well as the Horseshoe Bay – Langdale and Skidegate - Alliford Bay routes.  It is not currently possible to use the BC Ferries Experience™ Card on the following routes:

Tsawwassen-Swartz Bay

Mill Bay-Brentwood Bay
Tsawwassen-Duke Point Langdale-Gambier-Keats
Horseshoe Bay-Departure Bay

Please Note: It may be possible to use the Travel History report to claim the federal income tax credit for public transit on qualifying passenger trips.

*Reduced fares available on participating routes that accept prepaid paper tickets. BC Ferries Experience™ Card can be used to pay for ferry travel on participating routes. A list of participating routes is available online by clicking here or by calling 1 888 BC FERRY (1 888 223 3779). 

**After May 31, 2008, prepaid paper tickets purchased prior to April 1, 2008 can still be converted to a card at the prepaid fare as at March 31, 2008.

The Coast Card is an electronic swipe card that provides cardholders with the ability to purchase Assured Loading Tickets (ALTs) only. ALTs provide priority travel on three major Vancouver Island/Mainland routes.
