The Queens of Coquitlam, Cowichan and Oak Bay each received extensive upgrades in 2003, 2004 and 2005 respectively. From engine work to major modifications and improvements, the vessels are now ready for an additional 20 years of service.
Just to give you an idea of the scope of the project, over 100 tonnes of steel was either replaced or added to each vessel. What's more, the ships were outfitted with four state-of-the-art marine evacuation systems.
But most of all, the changes are aimed at improving your onboard experience. You'll find redesigned interiors that reflect the natural beauty of the West Coast. Easier access. More natural tones and textures. And you'll be greeted by a variety of enhanced onboard services.
Our Passages Gift Shop has always been a popular spot on board. So in keeping with the thinking that you can never get too much of a good thing, we've almost doubled the size of Passages from 550 sq. ft. to 1,000 sq. ft.
With an even wider selection of BC books, an eclectic mix of your favourite magazines, unique giftware, souvenirs, sundries and great looking casual wear, you'll be tempted to shop 'til you dock.
Tasty Additions
One way we've enhanced our food and beverage service is by renaming our cafeteria and snack bar. They're now called Coastal Café and Coast Café Express, and the décor is more appealing than ever. We've also introduced some well known branded partners to the mix.
Fresh food fast. The Bread Garden Bakery Café of Vancouver has been in business for more than 20 years. Now you'll find a fresh selection of nine Bread Garden sandwiches at our Coastal Café.
The legend continues. In 2003, BC Ferries and White Spot were awarded Newsmaker of the Year for outstanding partnership in the Food Service and Hospitality Industry. Our successful relationship with White Spot continues on board the Queens of Coquitlam, Cowichan and Oak Bay.
Say cheese! Villages Pizza has been a major player in the Victoria pizza business for more than 12 years, so we're pleased to bring Villages on board. Villages Pizza is available by the slice at our Coastal Café.
